Every bulldog owner love their dog and wants to be knowledgeable to have a healthy, strong and happy dog. However, there are many dangers in and around the home that can spell disaster for your dog. Due to canine curiosity and their tendency to taste everything around them they can ingest common household items that are potentially toxic. Grape and raisin

Grape and raisin (dried grapes) toxicity is well documented in dogs. Although the exact substance that causes the toxic reaction is not yet known,  even small amounts can prove to be fatally toxic for a dog. Therefore, keep grapes and raisins away from your bulldog. The most serious complications of grape/raisin toxicity is acute (sudden) kidney failure with lack of urine production (anuria). Vomiting and diarrhea, loss of appetite, weakness, abdominal pain, dehydration may also occur.

Chocolate

Chocolate is very much harmful for bulldogs because it contains large amount of caffeine and theobromine which are considered as toxic properties for the dogs. It can cause increased heart rate, irregular blood pressure, gastrointestinal upsets, seizures and even death in extreme cases.The toxic effect depends upon the body weight of the dog, type of chocolate and amount of chocolate ingested. the darker the chocolate the more toxic it is.

Avocado

Avocados are extremely healthy for humans but it is not healthy for your bulldog. Avocado contains persin which causes vomiting, diarrhea and constipation in your dogs.


Sugarless Gums

Sugarless gums contain xylitol which can cause dangerously low blood sugar levels. Due to low blood sugar weakness, loss of coordination, tremors and occasionally seizures may occur. Several days after ingesting xylitol dogs can develop elevated liver enzymes and sometimes liver failure.


Ibuprofen & Acetaminophen

Some human pharmaceuticals may cause damage to your bulldog. Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen are toxic and should never be given to your dog. It can causes seizures, death, halitosis, kidney failure, abdominal pain, anemia, black-tarry stool, bloody vomit, and lethargy.
